Call answering for Belfast businesses
Your 028 number stays exactly as it is. When you can't get to the phone, whether you're stuck on the Westlink or inside a unit on the Harbour Estate, an AI receptionist answers in your business name, takes the caller's name and number and what they need, and texts it straight to you. From £249 a month flat, no per-minute billing, live in about five days.
What happens when you can't get across town
Your number rings on as normal. If you don't pick up, the call forwards on the triggers you set, and the receptionist answers in your business name. It asks what the caller needs, takes their name and number, gets the detail of the job down, and tells them you'll ring them back. Then it texts you the lot.
You read that at the next stop, sitting in traffic on the Westlink or between jobs on the Lisburn Road, and you ring back the ones worth ringing. Nothing on your desk changes and your number stays with whoever you're with now. You pick when it's on: overflow while you're already on a call, weekends, or the whole way round.
That matters here because of how small most firms are. In March 2026, 89.4% of Northern Ireland's VAT or PAYE registered businesses employed fewer than ten people. In a firm that size the phone is one person's mobile, and when that person is up a ladder or under a floor, nobody is answering it.
Setup takes about five days. It's £249 a month on Starter, flat, with no per-minute billing. I'm not VAT registered, so there's no VAT on top. Thirty day rolling, cancel any time.
Why the phone is harder to answer in Belfast
Belfast has more registered businesses than any other council district in Northern Ireland, and it's one of the harder places in it to answer a phone. In March 2026 there were 12,100 VAT or PAYE registered businesses in the Belfast council district, 14.6% of everything in Northern Ireland, and the district added 285 of them in a year. Whatever you do, somebody a few streets over does it too, and your caller has their number as well as yours.
Then there's the driving. TomTom's 2025 index puts Belfast's average congestion at 58.4%, with ten kilometres taking 21 minutes 26 seconds on average and 25 minutes 45 seconds in the morning rush. Glider bus lanes run from 07:00 to 19:00 Monday to Saturday, and the G1 route runs the whole way from McKinstry Road out to Dundonald. Start a job down at the Harbour Estate and finish one off the Boucher Road and a fair chunk of your day goes on driving, which is exactly when you can't safely take a call.
The work spreads out as well. The Harbour Estate alone runs to 2,000 acres with around 760 businesses on it, so a maintenance firm can be inside a unit down there at nine and up the Lisburn Road by eleven. The council district got bigger too. In April 2015 Belfast took in areas that used to sit in Castlereagh, Lisburn and North Down.
Construction is where the growth is. Northern Ireland had 11,785 construction businesses in March 2026, the highest since the series began in 2010. On a site or up a ladder, that phone is somebody's pocket.

Common questions
Will my customers notice anything different when they ring my 028 number?+
They ring the same number they always have. Nothing gets ported, nothing gets replaced, and your number stays with whoever you're with now. You set a divert so the calls you don't pick up roll over to the receptionist, and it answers in your business name. Ring your own line before you go live and you'll hear exactly what a customer hears.
I spend half my day crossing Belfast in a van. Does that break it?+
No, it's the reason to have it. The divert happens on the network, not on your handset, so it doesn't matter whether you're sat on the Westlink, in a bus lane queue on the Lisburn Road, or inside a unit on the Harbour Estate. On the triggers you set, the call gets picked up, and the text with the caller's name, number and what they need lands as soon as the call ends.
There are thousands of firms in Belfast doing what I do. What difference does answering make?+
There were 12,100 registered businesses in the Belfast district in March 2026, so a caller who doesn't get you has plenty of other numbers to try. I can't tell you what it'll be worth to you, and I won't pretend to. What I can tell you is what it costs. Starter is £249 a month flat, Pro is £449, and there's no per-minute billing. Go over your monthly cap and it's 65p a call on Starter and 45p on Pro.
When is this the wrong answer for a Belfast business?+
If you've somebody sat at a desk answering the phone all day, you probably don't need it, or you only need it for overflow and out of hours. Same if your callers expect a price on the spot and the price depends on seeing the job. The receptionist takes the details and gets them to you. And if you're honest that you won't ring the leads back, it's money wasted. It only works if somebody picks the texts up and acts on them.
